The Work - Where we are
Work in progress
We continue to benefit from the help of English Heritage, for
which we are very grateful.
A further grant has been approved to enable us to
restore the roof of the South Aisle and to do some work on the tower. This
will complete the work to make the church weather-tight and enable us to move on
to the restoration of the interior.
The work commenced in October 2009 and we see the church
shrouded in scaffolding for the third time in this major restoration effort.
Funds raised for the restoration of the building - including
the contributions from the "100 Club" and the sale of Christmas cards and
notelets - are used only for that purpose. The running costs of the church
have to be met from other sources. This comes down to the commitment and generosity of
the congregation and Christians in the local community.
Success has its price - financial
The Church Treasurer writes.
We are making good progress in the restoration of the Church
building. We are holding more frequent services of worship and our
fellowship is growing. I should like to bring to your attention some
financial matters.
- As a result of the restoration work, it has been necessary
to check that the building is properly insured. The consequence is that
our annual insurance premium is now more than £2,700.
- Last year, we managed to pay our Parish Share to the
diocese (almost all of this helps to pay for our Rector). Our Parish
Share is more than £1,800 this year.
- Thus we regularly need more than £4,500 each year.
It would be helpful to the PCC and the Treasurer if we felt
that a high proportion f these necessary expenses was promised and given
regularly. We ask you to consider signing a Bank Standing Order to make a
monthly, quarterly or annual contribution. A certain amount comes in each
year in this way already but we should like to increase it. If the amount
you give in this way is also Gift Aided, then we can get an additional amount
from refunded income tax.
If you have any questions about this method of giving or you
are prepared to begin to help in this way, please contact the Treasurer, Vic
Rampton, Tansy Cottage, Hillside, Beckingham. Telephone, 01636 626665
